Book Review: Bad Taste in Boys
TITLE: Bad Taste in Boys
AUTHOR: Carrie Harris
PUBLISHED: 2011
CATEGORY: YA
GENRE: zombies, mystery
PREMISE: A girl investigates when the jocks in her school start acting strangely.
MY REVIEW: Does anyone remember the episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer where Buffy and friends investigate the swim team and it turns out the coach is putting some sort substance into them that turns them all into fish people? Well, that's pretty much the plot of this book. Just subsitute swim team for football team, Buffy and co for the Mary Sue main character, and a even more odder ending and you have this book.
Which isn't to say it's bad...it's just not very good either. Like I said, the main character is such a Mary Sue. I mean, how many times did she have to remind us that she's a geek? Oh, but she's a geek that randomly gets invited to popular kids parties but it's just because they're being polite, you know? Give me a break. While the zombie part was interesting for the first part of the book, and there are genuinely funny moments in this it wasn't enough to make up for lackluster characters, a familiar plotline, and a poorly done romance.
I say just check this out from the library if you want a zombie fix, but honestly, I've read much better zombie books.
